![]() George E. Herren, former, and now retired, Director of Real Property Tax Services for Ontario County, was appointed to the State Board of Real Property Services on September 15, 2006. Mr. Herren has also been designated as Chairman, filling the term ending December 31, 2009. Mr. Herren has extensive experience in government and a long career in real estate. He, most notably, served as the Director of Real Property Tax Services in Ontario County for 28 years, while assuming additional responsibilities as Operations Division/Group Manager overseeing several other departments. Serving as President, Board Chair and Historian of the New York State Association of Directors of Real Property Tax Services, Mr. Herren was the last charter member of the Association, retiring from the Association and Ontario County in 1999. Mr. Herren holds a B.A. from Ohio University. He also completed 38 years of distinguished US Army active and reserve duty service, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Herren's professional career included assignments with ORPS as a project assistant for Board of Assessment Review training, Finger Lakes Community College as an adjunct professor to students pursuing an interest in real estate, and with private sector corporations managing municipal revaluation projects in New York, Ohio and Tennessee. He is also the principal executive and fee appraiser of Academy Appraisal Associates, a professional consulting firm providing services to real estate clients throughout the Finger Lakes and upstate area since 1983. Mr. Herren holds the New York State professional IAO (Institute Assessing Officers) and CCD (Certified County Directors) designations, New York State Real Estate Sales license, and membership in the New York State Assessors' Association, Institute of Assessing Officers and the Western New York Chapter, International Association of Assessing Officers. Mr. Herren is actively affiliated with several local associations, military organizations and civic-volunteer groups including the Ontario County Traffic Safety Board, Greater Canandaigua Civic Center, Canandaigua Rotary Club, Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansions, Irondequoit Senior Softball and Military Officers Association of America. Mr. Herren and his wife, Carin, have been Canandaigua residents for nearly 35 years and have three sons: Galen, deceased, previously with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and New York State Parks Police; Loren, with Comair-Delta Airlines in New Bedford, MA; and, Keven with Village Office Supply in Fairport, NY. |
